Today I noticed these two models for sale at: http://www.camcentre.co.uk/ in the super 8 section.

But as far as I know they are already sold. However, this would give you some idea of UK prices. (Of course, London prices will be significantly higher).

    Exclamation

ooops sorry..I misread the models, you want the "SXL"...

Give you an idea see under Canon : http://www.marriott.u-net.com/stock/...ock.htm#super8

They list one model for sale, but its way above the US Ebay prices.

I love the 814-xls and the 1014-xls Canon Super-8 Cameras....If I had the extra space, I'd leave one on display.

The correct nomenclature is Canon 814-XLS, or 1014-XLS.

XL means existing light....meaning all Super-8 Cameras with an f-stop lens opening of F 1.4 or lower used this XL designation.

    S means Sound.

XLS means-existing light and Sound recording capability. (although now it is practically impossible to find sound film, so don't be manipulated by a seller into paying extra for a feature you cannot use.

The first number in the sequence usually equates the zoom ratio...an 814 has an 8-1 zoom ratio, a 1014 has a 10-1 zoom ratio.

The last two numbers (the 14), may in fact refer to the maximum f-stop opening...but that is not a hard and fast rule for all other super-8 cameras, some others, maybe, but not all....

.....whereas the the first or first two numbers of the sequence usually do always mean the zoom ratio of the camera.

Canon 814-XLS typically sell for between $250.00 - $450.00 on ebay. The price you pay may vary depending on the time of year as much as anything else...

When film school is in, sometimes the prices go higher....although, that also means there may be more cameras for sale, more cameras to go around, perhaps prices lower....

.....I'm really not sure, I just know that between September and March, it seems like more cameras are on sale than the summer months.

The Canon 1014-XLS's sell for between $400-$600 on e-bay...but sometimes they can go higher and higher...

even near a thousand dollars!....it just depends on certain variables beyond any one person's control when it comes to bidding on e-bay.

Remember, a fully functioning and working Canon Super-8 Camera may in fact be "worth paying twice the amount versus a Canon Super-8 Camera that has "minor" problems.

And should you buy the camera from an established business in the business of selling Super-8, the price will be significantly higher than what you find on e-bay.

A Canon 814-XLS may sell for between $400 - $800 when bought from an actual location that is in the business of selling cameras.

    A Canon 1014-XLS may sell for between $600 - $1,250....

And even higher if the Super-8 Store only wants to sell to people that are really "serious" about Super-8...

...like industry professionals that want the camera as a "B-Camera" for a professional shoot.

It makes sense to mark the price up on these cameras...the more the cameras sell for, the more likely whoever bought the camera is to be a shooter, and subsequently spend MORE money in that store for film, developing, and transferring to video...

.....which is about the only way a Super-8 Store could survive in this day and age.

    A professional may pay $1,000 for a Canon-814 XLS and up to $2,000 for a Canon-1014XLS....

....The professional will pay that much because they expect the camera to work, and to be repaired if they have a problem with the camera.

That's why they pay a premium for the camera.

    Hope this helps.

    -Alex

    Actaully,

XL means the shutter system is larger than 180 Degrees. Does increase exposure time for film but slightly less details espcially during motion.

    814 XLS and 1014 XLS has a shutter of 220 - 0
    with fixed indicator of 220-150-0.

The "marketing" term was "existing light".

We all used that term back in the day....in a sense, existing light probably refers to both shutter over 180 degrees AND low f-stop, hence existing light.
